1979 marks a moment of very high symbolic and civil value for Pozzallo: the signing of the Friendship Pact with the city of Florence. This ideal and institutional twinning was born in the wake of Giorgio La Pira, the "Holy Mayor", illustrious son of this land and citizen of the world. Through this agreement, the Mediterranean sunshine of Pozzallo has combined with the Renaissance depth of Florence, celebrating the indissoluble bond between the city that saw him born and the one that saw him operate as a messenger of international peace.
