In 1955 the then mayor Antonino Giunta managed to obtain financing for the construction works of the port of Pozzallo, which began immediately afterwards with a solemn ceremony of laying the first stone. Following the signing of the financing decree, the Minister of Public Works the Hon. Giuseppe Romita visited Pozzallo, warmly welcomed by the citizens.
